Job description
Merchandise displayers arrange, design and assemble promotional displays for retail stores and at trade shows. They arrange surrounding furniture or backdrops to ensure their displays are clearly visible to potential customers in order to increase a brand's overall sales and improve customer retention.
Duties
- Arrange, design and assemble promotional displays
- Erect and set up displays on walls, windows and booths
- Move surrounding furniture, backdrops and other properties to make display visible
- Plan and design displays to increase overall sales and improve customer retention
- Create and follow prepared sketches for merchandise display
- Put prices or descriptive signs on displays
- Communicate and consult with store managers or supervisors to plan placement of display
- Travel to trade shows to set up displays

Merchandise displayers typically work for retail stores. A great deal of physical stamina is required for this role, especially when setting up and erecting displays. The role involves a high level of social contact, liaising and arranging displays with store managers and supervisors.
The work may also involve research to understand what is needed, as well as composing and implementing design ideas.
Merchandise displayers who erect displays at trade exhibitions may spend a lot of their time travelling.
