Merchandise displayers arrange, design and assemble promotional displays for retail stores and at trade shows. They arrange surrounding furniture or backdrops to ensure their displays are clearly visible to potential customers in order to increase a brand's overall sales and improve customer retention.

Merchandise displayers typically work for retail stores. A great deal of physical stamina is required for this role, especially when setting up and erecting displays. The role involves a high level of social contact, liaising and arranging displays with store managers and supervisors.
The work may also involve research to understand what is needed, as well as composing and implementing design ideas.
Merchandise displayers who erect displays at trade exhibitions may spend a lot of their time travelling.

Qualifications and training
A high school diploma or equivalent is usually sufficient for aspiring merchandise displayers. However, those with an associate’s degree in art, design or fine arts are considered more appropriate for this role.
Most of the training is provided on the job, but prior experience, such as working in a retail store or as an artist, is highly beneficial.
